From the very first announcement of MADD’s “Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving,” the Auto Alliance has been a program partner. The campaign’s three-pronged approach includes:
- Supporting those who keep roads safe: That’s because high-visibility law enforcement not only catches drunk drivers, but just as importantly – discourages others from driving drunk.
- Advocating for a requirement that convicted drunk drivers “blow before they go:” Ignition interlock devices, or in-car breathalyzers, require all convicted drunk drivers to prove they are sober before the car will start.
- Turning cars into the cure: New technology will allow tomorrow’s cars to protect each of us by quickly and automatically determining whether a driver is above the legal limit of .08 blood alcohol content. If so, the driver won’t be able to operate the vehicle.
