Alliance Statement on National Child Passenger Safety Week

September 20, 2012

This week serves as a valuable reminder that our children must be properly restrained in the right safety seat, or safety belt, every single time they ride in a vehicle. Not only does it enhance safety; there are laws in every single state, and the District of Columbia, requiring the use of these essential restraint systems.

Government data confirm that child seats are highly effective in preventing fatalities and injuries. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that between 1975 and 2009 more than 9,300 lives were saved by the use of child seats.

Automakers, who have partnered with others to enhance child safety in and around autos, salute the thousands of certified child passenger safety technicians working diligently to assure correct child seat use – not just during this week, but year round.
