Institute for Highway Safety committed to new
performance criteria to enhance front and side impact crash protection.
![]() Distracted Driving – The Dangers of Texting While Driving: The Auto Alliance supports a ban on texting or calling using a hand held phone. Alliance automakers adhere to voluntary guidelines that ensure technology and safety are incorporated into all new vehicles. Click here to read more. Crash compatibility: In 2005, the Alliance worked with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) to commit to new performance criteria designed to enhance front and side impact crash protection. Telematics: In 2002, voluntary safety guidelines to enhance driver focus when using telematics were developed by the Alliance, the Intelligent Transportation Society of America, the Society of Automotive Engineers, the Consumer Electronics Association, AAA, the National Safety Council, AIAM and the Truck Manufacturers Association. Side Airbags: In 2000, a voluntary safety commitment to enhance the performance of side airbags was developed by the Alliance, IIHS, the Automotive Occupant Restraints Council and AIAM. |
