Alternative Fuel Autos Overview
Lower CO2, Alternative Fuel Autos Today
Consumers have more fuel-efficient auto choices than a year ago.
- 70 models of hybrids, clean diesel and ethanol-powered autos are
on sale now - more than five times the number available in 2000.
- Automakers sold 2 million hybrids, diesel and ethanol-capable
autos in 2007, so there are now more than 12 million of these
vehicles on our roads.
- More than 100 models are on sale that achieve 30 MPG or more.
(EPA highway estimate)
More Auto Choice is Here
And Even More is Ahead
- By 2009, more than 50 hybrid models are expected to be on sale.
(Bernstein Journal)
- Diesel sales are expected to triple over the next decade,
accounting for more than 10% of U.S. vehicle sales by 2015.
(The Diesel Technology Forum)
- Different state regulations delayed the introduction of diesel
technology in the United States, but today, for the first time
ever, automakers have found a way to make affordable diesel
vehicles for use in all 50 states.
