Ten years of work on our driver focus guidelines have resulted in NHTSA using them as the foundation for the government’s proposed program. Today NHTSA praised the Alliance for showing initiative in developing these guidelines.

The Auto Alliance filed comments today on NHTSA and EPA’s proposed fuel economy/greenhouse gas standards for 2017-2025.

In conjunction with the Washington, DC auto show, the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers is launching an awareness campaign to provide a clear picture of the greater auto industry in the United States.

Automakers today said that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announcement that 2010's road traffic fatality and injury rate reached an historic low of 1.10 per 100 million vehicle miles traveled (VMT) is a testament to the many safety advancements, including innovative, lifesaving vehicle technologies, the highest safety belt use rate ever and comprehensive efforts to prevent drunk driving.

The award-winning, multi-media, interactive “Decide to Drive” program has now picked up support from the Driving School Association of the Americas (DSAA), which passed a resolution of support of the campaign at its annual meeting in San Francisco. The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the Auto Alliance initiated the national “Decide to Drive” program to highlight the risks of distracted driving and educate drivers on how to maintain a focus on the road.

In 2012, automakers are offering for sale more than 265 models that achieve 30 MPG or more (highway), a 65% increase over MY 2011, according to the federal government's 2012 Annual Fuel Economy Guide released today.
